Health centre in Llucmajor, Mallorca

Architecture that is integrated into the context and which connects with its surrounding greenery through interior courtyards. The proposal of the new health centre in Llucmajor unifies the idea of a highly functional building with the quality of the spaces thanks to its direct relationship with the environment.

The proposal, a compact building of Ground Floor + 1, is designed as a system that is capable of ordering the complex distribution required, guaranteeing fluid movement for all users.

Together with the functionality criteria, the basis of the proposal is urban integration, the relationship with the environment, maximum economic efficiency and sustainability criteria.

The site is located where the city meets the countryside, in a space of great urban ambiguity. Our project seeks to order this environment by diluting the border between the city and the natural green space, integrating both worlds.

The distribution on both floors is organised around two courtyards. This forms a circular path that prevents long walk times and loss of orientation. Moving the consultations to the outer perimeters means that they all benefit from ventilation, natural light and exterior views.

Colour is a key component of the project, and has been introduced into the walls of each area of the centre. This helps to improve patients’ mood through chromotherapy and facilitates the orientation of users within the building.

The building plan is configured from a regular grid which allows the creation of a modular structural system using prefabricated elements that reduce the execution time of the work. The facade is designed to achive high energy efficiency. The vertical slats and horizontal GRC cantilevers order and frame the entire facade while protecting the cladding from the direct sunlight. This building meets the Passive House and Nearly Zero Energy Building standards adapted to the specific construction systems of Mallorca.
