Cloudworks Sant Antoni, Barcelona

Taking the nearby Sant Antoni Market as a reference, an action based on the coexistence between the current and the new is proposed. The striking contrast between pre-existing and new materials helps to adapt the spaces to the needs of each use.

The new Cloudworks Sant Antoni coworking space is located at number 62 of Calle Comte Borrel in Barcelona and occupies four floors of a building that formerly comprised of warehouses for the nearby Sant Antoni market.

The project stems from a process of dialogue between the client and coworking staff with the aim of designing an environment that meets the needs of all users. The concrete structure is used as a starting point to arrange the floors, all four of which are very similar, allowing easy orientation in the building. Two central volumes panelled in birch wood and containing the service elements, organise the distribution.

The work of adapting the offices was based on the search for the contrast between the old and the new. The architectural exploration begins by revealing materials and surfaces that had been hidden and discovered as part of an archaeological process. Concrete columns and metal beams have been exposed, as well as brick partition walls that reveal a mosaic of scars corresponding to the different stages of the building.

Once revealed, the new materiality was added: an acoustic projection on the ceilings and the floor finished in polished cement, wood and dark profiling have been added, as contemporary materials that strengthen the identity of the Cloudworks brand.

The terrace, with stunning views over the Sant Antoni market, is where the shared spaces are located and where the events take place. By introducing the same ceramic flooring inside and outside of the building, a spatial continuity is achieved that reinforces the idea of an airy and continuous space.
