To optimise the incoming light to the maximum. To open the corridor to generate new cross-cutting spaces. This apartment in the centre of Bilbao achieves great spatial amplitude due to a break in the distribution with which it gains luminosity and improves the spatial quality.
The flat is located in a 40’s building in the heart of Bilbao. Its position at one end of the block gives rise to a complex geometric layout, but one with a unique character. The organisation of the original home around a long corridor with excessive compartmentalisation did not suit the needs of the clients – a young couple with two young children – and required a complete rethinking of the layout of the house.
The project revolves around the idea of obtaining an apartment with as much natural light as possible, and with sufficient storage space. The new distribution breaks up the hallway, generating a diaphanous central space that connects the different rooms and allows the entry of natural light from both facades (the street facade and interior courtyard facade).
The corner bookcase was born from the need to generate a space to house the owners’ collection of books and vinyl records, and acquires great prominence for its integrated design and central position in the home.

As a result of the break in the corridor, the feeling of spaciousness is increased, generating interesting cross-cutting visuals.
